queen elizabeth's wardrobe revamp'd:
item 8 - jacket for a jubilee

2002
drawing, stencilling, & machine embroidery on silk & coton velvet
private collection

The jacket was made for the 62 Group of Textile Artists exhibition In Context at the V&A in 2002.

Statement from the catalogue:
"Historical textiles rarely inform my work, although I give workshops on 16th century textiles using 20th century processes. This exhibition afforder me the opportunity to extend my knowledge, constructing a rather subversive garment for an imaginary inventory. Clothing decoration of the first Elizabethan era often incorporated symbols pertinent to the age: in my 'revamp' of Elizabeth 2nd's compartatively dull garments, are ones found in the last 50 years, representing contemporary issues of technology, ecology and culture."
